After I shared several videos and my thoughts on the experience online in the past few days, I received many heart-warming blessings and encouragement. Last night, I got a message from Taiwan which was quite interesting. I was being asked a question about my own ethnic background:

X: I am quite curious; you live overseas but care so much about the rural areas in Taiwan. Yale, let me ask you this : are you a Taiwanese aborigine? Which ethnic group do you belong to? The largest aboriginal ethnic group in Changbin, Taitung is Amis, are you from Amis?

Y: Since you asked, I will tell you the truth. In fact, this is the first time I reveal my family secret to anyone. It's written in my family genealogical records that our ancestor came from "Man-Yi" tribe. "Man-Yi” has been the general term used in ancient time which refers to the minority ethnic groups other than "Hua-Xia" people who lived in the Central Plain of China.

X: "Man-Yi" tribe? I've never heard of it. It is very unique!

Y: You're young; no wonder you haven't heard of it yet. I am from the new ("Xin" in Mandarin ) " Man-Yi- Zu(tribe)".

Because I am Xin-Man-Yi-Zu (my heart is very satisfied)!

Maybe I am “falling short of the best", yet I am still fortunate enough to be "better off than many". I've got everything I need to achieve my goal; of course, I am "Xin-Man-Yi-Zu"!

這幾天陸續上載了Project Puyuma普悠瑪專案的影音記錄加心得分享. 收到了許多暖心的祝福和鼓勵. 昨晚還收到一則來自台灣的訊息, 問了一個想當然爾/耳的有趣問題. 對話如下:

X: 好奇的想知道, 你人在異鄉卻心懷偏鄉. 可不可以問一下, Yale 是原住民嗎? 哪一族的? 台東長濱鄉以阿美族為主. 是不是阿美族?

Y: 既然問了, 我就據實相告. 首次公開家族秘密. 其實我家譜有記載. 我們祖先源自蠻夷族, 古代泛指華夏中原民族以外的少數民族.

X: 蠻夷族? 好特別. 沒聽過!

Y: 你年紀輕, 當然沒聽過. 我是"新蠻夷族" - - 心. 滿. 意. 足.!! 比上, 雖不足. 比下, 幸有餘. 因緣俱足, 我當然是 ”心滿意足”!

X: ......
