MGO-2023-Jeff & Jan Teach English-Lesson 1 (09102023)
MGO-2023-Jeff & Jan Teach English-Lesson 1 (09102023)
After nearly half a year of communication and preparation, today marks the opening day of the 2023 Remote English Learning Assistance Program on the My Giraffe Organization (“MGO”) charity platform.
These programs are designed to serve 25 students from Minhe Junior High School and 9 students from Xinyi Elementary School in Xinyi Township, Taiwan.
For Minhe Junior High School, we have invited Ms. Sejee Kim, a dedicated high school English teacher from Northern California, USA, who is both professional and passionate about teaching. Through weekly video interactions, she collaborates with the school's English teacher, Ms. Sophie Cheng, to reinforce the students' English curriculum, enhancing their learning experience.
At Xinyi Elementary School, we have assembled a group of outstanding and socially engaged Asian-American high school students from Southern California to serve as peer tutors. With a high teacher-student ratio of 1:1, they provide interactive lessons to 5th and 6th graders once a week. We want to express our gratitude to our ESL Tutors Abby Lin, Alexandra Chou, Andrew Tan, Austin Tan, Benjamin Lee, James Leehealey, Mason Chen, Megan Cheng, Megan Vuong, Russell Lee and Senior Volunteer Jun-Wei Kao for their participation in this "Jeff and Jan Teach English" project, affectionately named after giraffes, where teaching and learning mutually enrich one another.
We also want to extend our appreciation to the principals, directors, and teachers of Minhe Junior High School and Xinyi Elementary School for their guidance and cooperation in making this educational project a success. And to MGO Mentor Teacher Mrs. Donise Lei and Senior Consultant Professor Wei-Lin Lei who devoted considerable effort and valuable time to curriculum development every week.
Special thanks to Chairwoman Lin Hsin-yi of the Taiwan Urban and Rural Cooperation Association; your warm recommendation has bridged this cross-Pacific connection.
The origin of this endeavor is enduring, and we look forward to continuing to share our experiences and joys with our friends and family who support and follow us in the future!
