電腦裡的老師

Just before a business trip, I unexpectedly arrived at Xinyi Elementary School to conduct weekly on-line English classes.

“You are the teacher in the computer!" When the sixth-grade students entered the classroom early in the morning and saw me sitting at the front, their surprise and delight were fully expressed in this sentence: “You are the teacher in the computer."

At first, it sounds a bit strange, but upon closer reflection, isn't this the learning environment and habit of the new generation of children?

Gradually, online interaction has replaced face-to-face interaction. Slowly, emojis have replaced written communication. Perhaps communication efficiency has improved, but at the same time, the emotional warmth between teachers and students seems to have declined at times.

Some things cannot be replaced by technology. But can't we do something about it?

Of course we can! I am pleased to announce our first Summer Camp-Camp Giraf-Fun at Xinyi Elementary School from July 8 to July 12, 2024. With fun scientific experiments as the theme, we will customize a five-day all-English course for Xinyi Elementary School students, emphasizing learning through doing. Stay tuned!

趕在商務行程的前夕，無預告的來到了信義國小現場進行每週遠距英文課程。

“你是電腦裡的老師!!”

當6年紀孩子們一早進入教室，看到坐在教室前端的我，那份意外驚喜之情，充份展現在這麼一句：

“你是電腦裡的老師.”

乍聽之下有點奇怪，但仔細一想，這不就是新世代孩子們的學習環境和習慣方式！

漸漸的，線上互動取代了實體相處。慢慢的，表情符號取代了文字溝通。溝通效率或許增進了，但在此同時，師與生，教與學之間的情感溫度也在一度又一度的下降中。

有些事情，是科技無法取代的。我們總是可以做點什麼吧??

當然可以！在此正式預告我們即將於2024年7月8日帶領美國志工小老師們上山開設英語夏令營。以有趣科學實作為主題，為信義國小同學們客製化全英文，做中學，學中做的5天課程。敬請期待！
