Thanks to the Chunghwa Telecom $NT 699 Unlimited 4G plan; it helped us to finish our lesson this week smoothly!

The typhoon has already gone. However, the telecommunication service providers in Taitung put their priorities in restoring the services within the city and postponed the internet service upgrade at our location in the rural area. Due to the uncertainty of the internet connection, at the last minute before the class started, we still worried about whether the issue will hinder our progress and affect our teaching effectiveness again. To our surprise, we found out that the video quality and internet connectivity were both improved dramatically. Besides the recently found issue of damping video equipment has been resolved, Teacher Walker, our volunteer in Taitung, made a key contribution by using his personal mobile phone as a hotspot for internet connection.

The entire class took one hour and twenty minutes to finish today, and it went by seamlessly. Because of that, our interaction with the students and their learning experience have become more precise and positive. It was the best session we had regarding internet connection and quality ever since we started the project. 

The 4G mobile hotspot connection experiment we did this time also gave me a new idea. Since we launched our first project, we've received many inquiries and requests from our friends in other rural areas in Taiwan, they wished to participate in our project as well. Due to the lack of internet accessibility, it seemed like an impossible mission. However, based on what we've learned, the 4G signal coverage from Chunghwa Telecom has reached almost every small town in Taiwan, and the price has also become more and more affordable. In the future, if the receiving end has a 4G mobile account and a signal, the connection problem will become a thing of the past. The 4G mobile hotspot will allow more groups from other locations to join our project – soon, MyGiraffe can reach out to more children and offer them the gift of learning!

本週課程得以超順利完成要歸功於台灣中華電信 $699 4G網路吃到飽專案!

縱使颱風已遠離, 但台東當地的電信公司優先處理市區的修繕工作, 遲遲未能進行我們位於郊區接收端的網路升級. 開課前一分鐘還在擔心教學效果和進度不知何時才能不受影響, 沒想到一連線後發現影音的傳輸和品質竟然大有改善. 除了之前發現的視訊設備受潮現象得到妥善處理有幫助外, 我們台東志工老師 Walker 這次嘗試利用個人手機 4G 網路做連結發揮了關鍵作用.

1小時20分鐘的課程進行流暢準點, 同學的互動學習更為精準積極, 可說是自從開課以來影音傳輸最順利, 效果最好的一節課.

這次的 4G行動上網實驗也給了我一個新構思. MyGiraffe 自從啟動第一個專案後陸續收到來自其他偏鄉地區朋友的詢問和上課意願. 但往往礙於當地網路資源的不足, 難以配合. 據了解, 台灣中華電信的 4G 涵蓋率基本上已達到鄉鄉有 4G 服務的程度. 費用也越來越親民. 因此未來只要接收端有 4G 門號和訊號, 就形同打通了任督二脈, 可以開設課程的地點就更多元了, MyGiraffe 也將得以與更多孩子們結緣, 提供更多學習的機會!
