To fit the needs of the majority of our students, we tested the idea of scheduling our session one day early, which is on Friday, 6:00 PM Pacific Time. If the change of schedule is finalized, then how our teachers can beat the busy evening traffic in LA and arrive on time will be a big challenge.

Ever since we launched Project Puyuma, in order to examine the effectiveness of our teaching material and optimize the flow of our lessons, Teacher Yale will take up the task to teach independently from time to time. Seizing every opportunity to teach allows us to learn from the students as well.

Tonight, our students practiced how to introduce themselves in English. Most of them told us that their favorite animal is a dog. We decide to invite this fluffy friend – Keleguo (Note: the name of a famous snack in Taiwan) to be our special guest tonight; I used the chance to educate them about how to keep a pet. “Keleguo” was born in Taiwan, and he was abandoned by his owner and had lived a very difficult life. Luckily, he was adopted by some nice person in the US, and under the loving care of his new owner, he was able to grow healthy and happy. His dramatic life story provided us a lesson to cherish all living creatures.

In our action-packed one hour and 25 minutes lesson each week, we interact with the students and engage them in speaking, writing, listening and reading in English. Gradually, from the progress of each of our students has made, we know that the hard work of our teaching consultants and volunteer teachers has paid off. We always feel that we receive more than our students do.

One of our sources of motivation is the feedback we have received from the parents of our students. Here we gladly share one of them with all our friends who are following MyGiraffe:

“KK (the student’s nickname) has been getting higher scores in English tests now. When he just started this new semester, he was assigned to be in the lowest-leveled English class. But recently he’s made an impressive progress, and his teacher told him that he doesn’t have to come to the evening tutoring session anymore. He still decided to stay in the evening tutoring session though, and he also found out that the Sunday class is highly related to his English class at school. I can see that he’s developed the interests in learning English, and that is something I’ve never seen in the past. “

Well said!
