he weather was nice on both side of the Pacific Ocean, and it suited our theme song for Unit 3 -" Happy!" perfectly. We were glad to have such a wonderful start!

A sunny Saturday, November 12th

The definition of the word "student" refers to a person who is currently studying at school. But in a broader perspective, as long as someone is learning from the knowledge and wisdom of others, then he or she can be called a "student".

This week we were at Lesson Two of Unit Three, and we had some unexpected new "students" come to join our learning session. They are a group of moms who currently learning Reflexology with Father Josef; even though their English levels are very different from one another, their willingness to learn and their positive attitude are no less than any younger students.

Here I want to give commendation to Teacher Amy for her ability to adjust swiftly; when facing these "unconventional" students, we need to make changes and modify our existing teaching plan. The goal is to accommodate every student's learning ability, even though their age might range from 12 years old to a senior citizen. Acquiring the capacity to adapt to all unexpected situation is also one of our goals in the volunteer training.

Later we've learned that this group of students are mainly mothers from local aboriginal group. They often have the chance to get in touch with some foreigners while providing them foot massages. However, they always felt it's such a pity not be able to communicate in English and promote the health benefits of Reflexology to those customers. Learning Basic English Conversation skill while receiving the training in Reflexology might provide a big boost in their career after they finish the Reflexology program here.

MyGiraffe has always been an open-source charitable platform since Day One; we never limit ourselves to only serve a specific group of people. Today's experience lets us consider the future possibilities to set up related projects. We will reach out to them to get a better understanding at the end of the year and then make our decisions.

學生(Student)一般指正在學校受教育或在校學習的人.但廣義來說, 只要是學習他人知識與智慧的人, 都可以稱學生.

本週第3單元第2節課的課程意外有幾位新”同學”的參加. 她們是正在與吳神父學習新足部健康法的學員. 雖然英文程度不一, 也都是媽媽級成員, 但表現出來的學習精神和態度一點都不輸年輕學子.

在此特別要讚許種子志工老師 Amy 的臨場反應. 面對這些”非典”學生, 既定的教案馬上要做出改變與調整, 以求兼顧12歲到銀髮族的學習能力. 面對變化球能及時反應的本事也是我們期望在志工培育上的目標之一.

據了解, 這群以原鄉媽媽們為主的同學常有機會與對足部按摩感興趣的外國人接觸, 但總遺憾無法用英文溝通來提供更多的介紹與服務以推廣這有益健康的療法. 如果配合這些媽媽們在學習一技之長的同時也加入基本英語會話的學習機會, 在學成就業後應該會有所助益.
